For those not in the know, Terragen is a wonderful piece of software for creating photographically real 3D landscapes. It is quite a simple bit of software to get started with, though you can spend years mastering it (something I havent done yet, though I am still trying). It is available to download for free from here, though that version is restricted to the size of landscapes you can use and the size and quality of the finished renders. You can buy the software in its fully featured state for a measley $99 (well worth it) There was a new version released December 2006. This is a quantum leap in the capabilities of the software. Some of the sample images on the Planetside website are just gob-smacking.
There is a email discussion group hosted on Yahoo groups for those loonies sad enough to want to discuss the finer points of the software (I can say that cause I am a card carrying member) which is well worth joining. You can ask questions etc and everyone will chip in to help find as answer. Its not just for experienced users either, newbies are more than welcome and aren't laughed at for asking daft questions... everyone there remembers when they started with the software only too well.
